Fast Computers and Dead Power Packs

Last week the Lord told me to turn off my computer and phone for a week, so I did. Within two days, the peace in the house was obvious. The peace in my heart, moreso. As the end of the week drew near, I found myself getting antsy. Not only did I enjoy the quietness, I enjoyed how loudly God seemed to speak, or maybe, it was simply so quiet, I could hear Him more clearly. In either case, I didn't want to give that up, but the Lord had only said seven days.

Friday I came home from a writer's conference, and I pulled up my email. The battery icon kept flickering on and off--mostly on (which translates to a blinking icon with a big red X screaming it's going to die soon if major resucitation isn't done). When I jiggled the cord to my power pack, I heard a sizzle. This is great on a cool morning when bacon is in the skillet, but not good around 10:00 pm when your trying to talk nice to a computer.

A nuisance but not a real issue. We'd simply by another one in our instomatic, whatever-you-need-right-now world. Except, my power pack is an older model. It has to be special ordered. It should be in--when? Yep. In about seven days.

Amazing how God makes you want to laugh and cry in the very same moment.

And so beloved ones, I am typing away today on my husband's computer, so I can let you know where I am and give a glimpse of what God is doing--although there is TONS more to tell when there is time and a charged battery to do that.

You can still email me and comment on any of the blogs. However, I might not see any of it until Friday, so don't feel I'm ignoring you. On the contrary, I praise the Lord for you.

Blessings of hearing His voice clearly be yours as well...There's nothing that gives life like He does.

How did you fare during the storm? Do you still have power?

Jan,
Actually, we were in the perfect place. It rained most of Saturday with a solid soaking rain, nothing rough and no flooding. Sunday came out clear and cool. It was easier than a lot of our spring storms.

Rob's family in Baton Rouge and on the Northshore of the Pontchartrain lost power on Friday. We don't know if they have it back yet. Baton Rouge had just gotten power back the weekend before, so we are concerned for them, especially mentally and emotionally.

We have friends who have homes in Houston, Beaumont, Clear Lake, and Galveston who are not even being allowed to try to go home, and we don't know when they will, so they are in need of prayer, and they will need a lot of assistance to put their lives back together.

Thank you for asking about us, though. I appreciate all prayers. It could have been so much worse. If that monster had come in at a 4 or 5 like they thought it likely would, I cannot fathom that destruction.

Jerri, I posted a special prayer request at my blog for a lady named Mary. I don't know whether or not she is a Christian. Please pray!!!!

Jerri,

Just found your comment and question on my blog - the one I never get to work on...

Allen - between Plano and McKinney!

Reading this again I have to laugh at God's humor. My laptop went down for 24 hours and I was in serious withdrawals - and I have a desk top to use. Hope it gets fixed soon.

Jan,

This is day 14 of either fasting by choice or by necessity. I'll have to write about it. There are so many positives that have come from it, but I'm ready to get back to work on my book manuscript and check in on folks that I've been missing.

We thought the package would be in the mail today, but nope. Hopefully tomorrow.

BTW, I met Allison Bottke (Boomer Babe that she is) at the conference over the weekend. Fabulous lady!

Imagine being a parent barely able to pay bills and someone comes to your home and promises to educate your daughter and find her a job. You agree, hoping to give her a better life. Then she disappears, and you find out she is not being educated. Instead, she is a prostitute, a victim of human-trafficking, beaten and abused daily. Sounds like a nightmare, doesn't it? For 100,000 girls in India, this is reality. To find out how you can help, please visit Red Light Rescue.
